Through an agreement between PLATINUM Technology (the makers of ERwin) and TSI, PLATINUM is actively marketing tRelational as their "ADABAS Link for PREDICT," the only tool on the market that effectively migrates metadata from PREDICT to ERwin.

You can cut and paste from now 'til doomsday, but if you want to pump it directly, tRelational is the only answer, because tRelational can be used "stand-alone" to migrate metadata from PREDICT to ERwin.

The tRelational process of metadata migration is as follows:

  1. A file structure is extracted from PREDICT.
  2. In an automated data-structure conversion process, the non-relational aspects of the PREDICT file structures that ERwin cannot handle (i.e., MU and PE structures) are converted into separate table structures to which the user may optionally add Primary Key, Alternate Index, and Foreign Key constraints.
  3. tRelational generates DDL statements (SQL to create tables and constraints) for importation into ERwin.

Upcoming Release of tRelationalPC Promises Enhanced Import/Export Interface Between tRelationalPC and ERwin

With the PLATINUM LinkObjects API, tRelationalPC can completely interface with any database modeling done with ERwin. Data modelers will be able to maintain their designs in just one place, either in tRelationalPC or ERwin, and convert the data definitions between the two packages as needed. This means that users won’t have to re-input data models to take advantage of the respective softwares’ functionalities. Data models created and maintained in ERwin can be brought into tRelationalPC to map ADABAS fields to the target columns. Data models created in tRelationalPC to take advantage of the automatic mapping functions can then be stored and maintained in ERwin. Also, with ERwin’s reverse engineering capabilities, data modelers can automatically import database definitions already defined in a target database into tRelationalPC, by going through ERwin first. This will provide users with the framework to complete their ADABAS mappings without having to start the process from the beginning.
